With groceries becoming more expensive, I’ve been shopping more at Costco for budget-friendly deals. Since Costco tends to sell items in bulk, this is where I purchase most of our non-perishable or frozen foods (although I will occasionally buy fresh products such as grass-fed butter and fresh organic berries). Here are a few of my favorite items to buy from Costco, for their health benefits and budget-friendly prices – considering adding a few of these to your next Costco haul!

  1. Nature’s Touch Frozen Organic Four Berry Blend
A package of Nature's Touch Organic Four Berry Blend, featuring a mix of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, labeled with nutrition information on a wooden surface.

Total price: $11.49

Price per serving: $1.15

I always make sure to have a bag of frozen berries in our freezer, for adding to smoothies and oatmeal – my toddler even enjoys them as-is for a frozen sweet treat! Berries are loaded with phytonutrients and have anti-inflammatory properties. They are also an excellent source of fiber and vitamin C. In addition, frozen berries are much more economical than fresh, and have equal nutritional value – all the more reason to add them to your next grocery list.

2. One Degree Sprouted Rolled Oats

A bag of One Degree Sprouted Rolled Oats featuring a gluten-free label and a design emphasizing transparency and organic ingredients.

Total price: $9.39

Price per serving: $0.21

Oats are a pantry staple, not just for making oatmeal, but also for making granola, baked goods, oat flour, and more. This brand is my go-to as it is organic, gluten-free, glyphosate-free, and they are sprouted, which means they are easier to digest and the nutrients are more bioavailable. Oats are an excellent source of fiber, B vitamins, and essential minerals.

3. Go Raw Organic Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds

Package of Go Raw Organic Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds with sea salt on a wooden table.

Total price: $9.99

Price per serving: $0.48

These pumpkin seeds are a new favorite of mine, as a snack or to add to salads, oatmeal, yogurt, granola, baked goods, or trail mix. There’s just two ingredients – pumpkin seeds and sea salt – and they are sprouted, which means they are easier to digest and the nutrients are more bioavailable. One serving has 8g of protein, and contains 40% of the recommended daily value for magnesium! It’s also an excellent source of iron, phosphorus, zinc, copper, and manganese.

4. B Organic Organic Baby Spinach

A package of B Organic baby spinach, labeled as triple-washed, placed on a wooden surface.

Total price: $4.99

Price per serving: $1.00

While fresh spinach isn’t a non-perishable food, I added it to the list because you can easily cook down a large amount for one serving, or freeze it for later. Spinach is incredibly versatile for adding to meals – think salads, sandwiches, soups, stir-fry’s, sauteed greens, juicing, smoothies, etc. A good challenge is to buy a large bag every week and get through it by the end of the week, ensuring you are always adding some dark leafy greens to your diet. Spinach is an excellent source of vitamins A, C, and K, as well as iron, folate, magnesium, and phytonutrients.

5. Lotus Foods Organic Millet & Brown Rice Ramen Noodles

A package of Lotus Foods Organic Millet & Brown Rice Ramen Noodles, featuring a bowl of noodles and chopsticks, with text highlighting its organic certification, quantity, and protein content.

Total price: $9.99

Price per serving: $0.83

Who doesn’t love ramen? These ramen noodles can be used in stir-fry’s, soups, and cold noodle salads, and are a good source of protein and fiber. They are gluten-free and oil-free and contain only two ingredients: organic brown rice flour, and organic millet flour. Compare that to the head-spinning list of unrecognizable ingredients in standard wheat-based ramen noodles, and you can see why I’ve included it on this list!

6. Wildbrine Raw Organic Sauerkraut

Jar of Wildbrine raw organic sauerkraut with a green label, placed on a wooden table.

Total price: $8.89

Price per serving: $0.19

Adding sauerkraut to salads and sandwiches, or as a side to your meal, is an excellent way to include more fermented foods in your diet. Sauerkraut is a good source of fiber and probiotics, which support gut and immune health. If you are new to the world of fermented foods, this is a good place to start.

7. Kirkland Signature Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

A jar of Kirkland Signature Organic Virgin Coconut Oil with a bright orange lid, placed on a wooden table, featuring a nutrition facts label.

Total price: $19.99

Price per serving: $0.12

Coconut oil can be utilized in baking and cooking, or even for oil pulling for dental health. It is also excellent for skin and hair health. Coconut oil is the highest natural source of lauric acid, which has antibacterial and antifungal properties, and is a good source of antioxidants as well.

8. Monda Foods Organic Chia Seeds

Package of Monda Foods Organic Chia Seeds on a wooden surface, featuring a design with purple accents and health benefit icons.

Total price: $8.69

Price per serving: $0.19

Chia seeds are another incredibly versatile ingredient to add to your grocery list! You can make chia pudding, or add them to oatmeal, yogurt, smoothies, or added to baked goods. They are a good source of calcium, Omega-3’s, fiber, and iron, and can support digestion and heart health.

9. Kirkland Signature Wild Caught Canned Pink Salmon

A stack of canned wild caught pink salmon from Kirkland Signature, featuring a label indicating boneless and skinless, with details on omega-3 content and packaging size.

Total price: $18.99

Price per serving: $1.58

Canned salmon is a budget-friendly way to add more salmon to your diet – it can be added to salads and pasta, or made into salmon patties. Salmon is an excellent source of protein, Omega-3’s, and vitamin D (one serving contains over half the recommended daily value!). It can support heart health, brain function, and reduce inflammation.

10. Summers Peak Frozen Organic Green Peas

A bag of Summers Peak Organic Green Peas featuring a graphic of green peas and a bowl of peas on the packaging.

Total price: $8.99

Price per serving: $0.39

Green peas are another incredibly versatile and nutritious food that you can add to your meals – think salads, pastas, stir-fry’s and soups, or simply steamed with a little butter and salt. This is also generally a kid-friendly choice for vegetables, as they are easy to chew and sightly sweet – my kids love them! Green peas are an excellent source of fiber, protein, antioxidants, and several essential vitamins and minerals.

I hope you find this list useful and now have some inspiration for your next trip to Costco – it’s an easy and budget-friendly way to add more nourishing whole foods to every meal!
